On this blog European volunteers and local volunteers share their stories (in different languages) about the service coordinated by the Association of social volunteers “ODIN/VITA” in Daugavpils, Latvia.
In 2000 people came together for the initiative group “ODIN/VITA” with the motto: Helping others you help yourself! It united people of different age, sex, social status, religious and political view for the voluntary work in the public welfare. In 2002 the Association of social volunteers “ODIN/VITA” was established to encourage individual’s social activity, to raise civic awareness and to implement democratic principles by supporting the volunteers work for reducing social exclusion. The association provides alternative social services to the residents of Daugavpils. Its volunteers give support for single pensioners, unemployed, children from social risk families, youth and people with special needs.
